As local people will know from day to day experience our area, like many village communities, has a number of issues around parking and traffic. As the local population grows and more households have vehicles this problem affects more and more people in a variety of ways.
As local Councillors, we understand the need for people to have access to adequate parking provision. We also appreciate the need for suitable enforcement to ensure that people behave in a safe and sensible manner on our roads. This is why I am leading on a plan which is being put together by our local councillor team in conjunction with Rochdale Council Highways to develop a comprehensive, village-wide parking and traffic plan for Norden.
As part of this extensive project we will be looking at a number of issues, including:
- The availability of adequate parking provision to meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors to our village.
- Excessive vehicle speed through Norden, with a particular emphasis on those travelling through the village along Edenfield Road.
- Enforcement of road traffic regulations.
- School traffic issues.
I am been very keen to ensure that this is a consultation led project. I want as many people as possible from our community the chance to have their say on what matters to them. We are going to work hard and listen carefully so that we can achieve an outcome that works for everyone in Norden.
We have already commissioned a formal survey with the Rochdale Council Highways team and myself, Jim and Mike will all be helping to make this a really representative study that takes in different days and times so that we get a good picture of where our problems are. We will also be speaking to as many residents as possible so look out in the new year because we will want to speak to you about your views.
